The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) supports campus-wide safety and environmental programs. It prioritizes safety and is committed to maintaining a safe environment for all who attend, visit, and work at UTD. This includes UTD staff, faculty, and students, as well as construction contractors and their respective workforces.
When left intact and undisturbed, asbestos-containing materials do not pose a health risk to building occupants. There is a potential for exposure only when the material becomes damaged to the extent that asbestos fibers become airborne and are inhaled. Asbestos fibers may be released into the air by disturbing asbestos-containing material during demolition, building maintenance, repair, and remodeling. In general, exposure may occur only when the asbestos-containing material is disturbed or damaged in some way to release particles and fibers into the air.
UTD employees and contractors working on projects that may require disturbing or damaging suspect asbestos-containing building materials (ACBM) may request information regarding the status of asbestos testing and abatement by filling out this Asbestos Information Request.
Employees/contractors shall not proceed with any change in work that requires material to be disturbed that the “Asbestos Information Request”, asbestos inspection report, or construction documents show has not previously been tested (e.g. "suspect" ACBM). If a change in the scope of work becomes necessary, the revised scope of work shall be reviewed and pre-approved by UTD Safety or another authorized entity.
